tea party birthday

My 34th(!!) birthday was in early September, and I knew immediately what I wanted – an elegant tea party with my friends!

The Boston Public Library has a courtyard restaurant with a pretty nice afternoon tea.  I decided to have my party there, because our original plan (hosting ourselves in our apartment) wasn’t ideal.

I was excited to take photos beforehand because I felt so classy!  There’s also something about a fascinator that makes people think you are important – quite a few people stopped me to ask me where I was going, and a few others even took pictures while Dave was snapping away!

I don’t like when people pay attention to me while I’m posing, but I guess I was just feeling really confident because I was barely affected by it!

I thought it would be funny to wear gaudy jewelry, so I bought some plastic pearl necklaces and big bling rings.  I put them in little organza bags to give to my friends at the tea party so we could all be super “fancy!”

I hope you can see the print of my dress above.  I got it at Disney in Florida over the summer – it’s a Mad Tea Party dress! 🙂

The first few photos in my post were taken outside of the library, and these were taken in the courtyard:DSC_0951-small

first day of summer vacation

DSC_0762-small

It’s funny going through these photos, since they were taken back in June. It was the first weekend of summer vacation, and I had just said goodbye to my amazing students the day prior. (Including a very emotional hug with a 5th grader – we had really connected over the past five years, and she was sad to be leaving me to go to the middle school! So sweet!)
